August 20, 2006 - Giac Lam Pagoda

Today we ventured out to see more of the city. We saw 2 Pagoda's and 1 Temple. It was amazing the only disappointment is my camera screwed up and the over 100 pictures I took, only 20 of them survived. Mom and I are beyond upset. So we have no pictures from the Emperor Jade Pagoda which had amazing 2 story high wood cravings everywhere. Also we have no pictures of where we ate lunch today.
The Giac Lam Pagoda is the oldest Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City. It was built in 1744. There is beautiful gardens through out and a giant Buddha of Compassion that was taller than the pagoda itself. We also heard some beautiful chanting done by the monks.
